What changed with Llama 2
On July 18, 2023, Meta released Llama 2 with Microsoft as its preferred partner, describing it as free for research and commercial use. Unlike the first LLaMA, which was limited to researchers, the weights were openly downloadable under the Llama 2 Community License, and the model was also offered on Azure, AWS and Hugging Face.
According to Meta's model card, Llama 2 came in 7B, 13B and 70B parameter sizes, each with a pretrained and a chat-tuned version. The models were trained on 2 trillion tokens with a 4K-token context window. The license was Meta's own community license rather than a standard open-source license, and access required accepting its terms.
