Artificial Analysis launches Intelligence Index v5 with nine evaluations

Intelligence Index v5 at a glance

The fifth version of the widely cited model ranking adds coding and science agent tests and now draws 60% of its weight from private or held-out test sets.

What changed with Intelligence Index v5

Artificial Analysis published version 5 of its Intelligence Index on October 27, 2026. The composite now uses nine evaluations split into four equally weighted areas: knowledge work, coding, science, and general ability. New entries are FrontierCode 2.0 and Terminal-Bench-Science; HLE-Diamond, AA-Omniscience v1.1, and a hard CritPt v2 subset replace earlier versions, while GDPval-AA, SciCode, and AA-LCR were dropped.

According to the announcement, 60% of the index is now based on private test sets or held-out answers, which makes it harder for models to be tuned to the public questions. At launch, Claude Opus 5.5 (max) led with 58, one point ahead of GPT-6 Astra (max) at 57.

Why Intelligence Index v5 matters for businesses

For businesses comparing models for automation work, the shift toward knowledge-work and agentic coding tasks makes the index closer to real deployments than older quiz-style benchmarks. Scores from v5 are not comparable to earlier index versions, so older rankings should not be mixed with new ones.
