What changed with Claude 3 Opus
Anthropic introduced the Claude 3 family on March 4, 2024, with three models in rising order of capability: Haiku, Sonnet and Opus. All three could read photos, charts, graphs and technical diagrams, and all launched with a 200K-token context window. Anthropic said they could accept inputs over 1 million tokens for select customers.
Opus and Sonnet were generally available in the API at launch, with Haiku following soon after. Sonnet powered the free claude.ai experience and Opus went to Claude Pro subscribers. Sonnet also launched on Amazon Bedrock and in private preview on Google Cloud Vertex AI. Prices per million input and output tokens were $15 and $75 for Opus, $3 and $15 for Sonnet, and $0.25 and $1.25 for Haiku.
