Google announced Gemini 1.5 on February 15, 2024, starting with Gemini 1.5 Pro. It used a mixture-of-experts architecture, and Google said it performed at a level similar to Gemini 1.0 Ultra while using less compute.
The standard context window was 128,000 tokens, but a limited group of developers and enterprise customers could try up to 1 million tokens in private preview through Google AI Studio and Vertex AI. Google said that was enough for about 1 hour of video, 11 hours of audio, codebases of more than 30,000 lines, or over 700,000 words, and that its research had tested up to 10 million tokens.
