What changed with Gemini 1.0 Ultra
Google and Google DeepMind introduced Gemini 1.0 on December 6, 2023, in three sizes: Ultra for highly complex tasks, Pro for a wide range of tasks, and Nano for on-device use. Google said Gemini was pre-trained on multiple modalities from the start instead of joining separately trained parts, and that Ultra scored 90.0% on MMLU.
A tuned Gemini Pro began powering Bard in English in more than 170 countries and territories, and the Pixel 8 Pro became the first phone to run Gemini Nano. Developers and enterprise customers got Gemini Pro through the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI starting December 13, while Ultra was held for select customers until the following year.
