Google DeepMind Veo 2 at a glance
Google said human raters preferred Veo 2 over leading video models. It could output up to 4K, rolled out through VideoFX with a waitlist, and carried SynthID watermarks. An updated Imagen 3 shipped the same day.
What changed with Google DeepMind Veo 2
Google announced Veo 2 on December 16, 2024. It could generate video at up to 4K resolution, with clips that could be extended to minutes, and Google said it achieved state-of-the-art results in head-to-head comparisons judged by human raters.
Veo 2 rolled out in Google Labs' VideoFX with a waitlist, and Google said it planned to bring it to YouTube Shorts and other products the following year. Outputs carried an invisible SynthID watermark. The same announcement updated Imagen 3 in ImageFX and introduced Whisk, an experiment for remixing images by subject, scene and style.
Why Google DeepMind Veo 2 matters for businesses
For businesses, Veo 2 made Google a serious option in AI video next to Sora and Runway, with a planned path into YouTube Shorts. The SynthID watermark also helped brands that wanted to label AI-made content.
