Google unveils Veo 3, a video model that generates sound, plus Imagen 4 and the Flow tool

Google DeepMind Veo 3 at a glance

At I/O 2025, Veo 3 became the first Veo model to produce synchronized audio such as dialogue and ambient sound, while Imagen 4 improved fine detail and typography at up to 2K.

What changed with Google DeepMind Veo 3

On May 20, 2025, at Google I/O, Google DeepMind introduced Veo 3, which for the first time in the Veo line generates video together with audio: background sounds, effects and dialogue between characters with lip sync. It launched for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US in the Gemini app and Flow, and for enterprises on Vertex AI.

Google also released Imagen 4, with sharper fine detail, aspect ratio options up to 2K resolution and much better spelling and typography, available in the Gemini app, Whisk, Vertex AI and Workspace. Flow, a new AI filmmaking tool combining Veo, Imagen and Gemini, opened to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US. All outputs carry SynthID watermarks.

Why Google DeepMind Veo 3 matters for businesses

For businesses, native audio removed a whole editing step from short-form video, making quick product demos and social ads far easier to draft. The watermarking and platform disclosure rules still mean AI video should be labeled where required.
