Google releases Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, the 'nano-banana' image generation and editing model

Gemini 2.5 Flash Image at a glance

Gemini 2.5 Flash Image added character consistency, multi-image fusion, prompt-based edits and Gemini world knowledge, priced at about $0.039 per image, with SynthID watermarks.

What changed with Gemini 2.5 Flash Image

On August 26, 2025, Google introduced Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, nicknamed nano-banana, as its state-of-the-art image generation and editing model. It can keep the same character or product consistent across scenes, merge several input images into one, make targeted edits from natural-language instructions, and draw on Gemini's knowledge of the world.

It launched in the Gemini API and Google AI Studio for developers and on Vertex AI for enterprises, plus through partners such as fal.ai. Google priced it at $30 per million output tokens, with each image counting as 1,290 tokens, or about $0.039 per image. Every created or edited image carries an invisible SynthID watermark, and Google said it was still improving long text rendering and fine factual details.

Why Gemini 2.5 Flash Image matters for businesses

For businesses, consistent products and characters at a few cents per image made AI practical for catalog photos, real estate listings, uniform badges and ad variations, with human review still needed for accuracy.
