On November 13, 2025, OpenAI released GPT-5.1 in its API, describing it as the newest flagship of the GPT-5 family. The same day it shipped gpt-5.1-codex and gpt-5.1-codex-mini for coding work, plus extended prompt cache retention of up to 24 hours.
