MCP Apps at a glance
MCP Apps lets a tool return an interactive interface, such as a form or dashboard, that the AI client renders inside the conversation.
What changed with MCP Apps
The MCP project announced MCP Apps as its first official extension and called it ready for production. A tool declares a UI resource, the host shows it in a sandboxed iframe, and the interface talks to the host over JSON-RPC.
Clients named at launch were Claude on web and desktop, Goose, Visual Studio Code Insiders builds, and ChatGPT, which was starting its rollout. The work builds on MCP-UI and the OpenAI Apps SDK, so one app can run across these clients without client-specific code.
Why MCP Apps matters for businesses
For businesses, this means an assistant connected to a booking system or CRM can show a real form or chart instead of a block of text. Agencies can build one interactive tool and reach customers in several AI clients.
