Agent2Agent (A2A) Protocol 1.0 at a glance
On A2A's first anniversary, the Linux Foundation reported more than 150 supporting organizations and highlighted version 1.0, the agent-to-agent protocol's first stable specification.
What changed with Agent2Agent (A2A) Protocol 1.0
The Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol lets AI agents built on different frameworks discover each other and delegate work. The Linux Foundation's April 9, 2026 announcement says version 1.0 brought multi-protocol support, multi-tenancy, updated security flows, a migration path for early adopters, and signed Agent Cards for verifying an agent's identity.
Support grew from more than 50 organizations in April 2025 to more than 150, including AWS, Cisco, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Salesforce, SAP, and ServiceNow. The release names Azure AI Foundry, Copilot Studio, and Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Runtime among the platforms with A2A integration, and lists five production SDK languages.
Why Agent2Agent (A2A) Protocol 1.0 matters for businesses
Where MCP connects an agent to tools and data, A2A connects agents to other agents. For businesses whose AI agents span several vendors, a shared protocol makes handoffs between them less dependent on custom glue code.
