Apple introduces its third generation of Foundation Models, built with Google

AFM 3 Core at a glance

Apple's five-model AFM 3 family spans on-device models and Private Cloud Compute server models, including a 20B sparse on-device model and a Cloud Pro model for agentic tool use.

What changed with AFM 3 Core

On June 8, 2026, Apple described its third-generation Foundation Models, a five-model family built in collaboration with Google. On device, AFM 3 Core is a 3B dense model and AFM 3 Core Advanced is a 20B sparse model that activates 1 to 4B parameters per request and streams weights from flash storage.

On the server side, AFM 3 Cloud, the ADM 3 Cloud image model, and AFM 3 Cloud Pro run on Private Cloud Compute, which Apple says does not store or share user data. Cloud Pro, for agentic tool use and complex reasoning, is optimized for NVIDIA GPUs in Google Cloud. Apple's results are human-preference evaluations, with a fuller technical report promised.
