What changed with MAI Image 2.7
On October 27, 2026, Microsoft AI released MAI Image 2.7 in preview as its latest image editing model. It targets edits such as restyling or relighting a scene, changing text and symbols while keeping them integrated with the image, and restoring or enhancing existing assets.
Microsoft reported, at launch, that the model ranked #3 on Arena's image edit leaderboard, making Microsoft AI the #2 lab there, and #2 on Artificial Analysis' image editing leaderboard. It says 2.7 beats MAI Image 2.6 across all 10 use cases and 7 editing actions that Artificial Analysis evaluated. These are vendor-reported results and early preference rankings.
For now you can try the editing features on Arena, Artificial Analysis, and MAI Playground. Microsoft says text-to-image generation is coming soon. The announcement does not mention Microsoft Foundry, an API, pricing, or regions, so it cannot yet be built into client workflows.
