OpenAI releases GPT-6 Rosalind for approved life sciences researchers

GPT-6 Rosalind at a glance

GPT-6 Rosalind (also called GPT-Rosalind-6) uses GPT-6 Astra's weights with fewer refusals on dual-use biology questions. It is limited to organizations approved for Rosalind Research and costs $15/$75 per million tokens in the API.

What changed with GPT-6 Rosalind

On October 30, 2026, OpenAI released GPT-6 Rosalind (API model gpt-6-rosalind), which its system card addendum calls GPT-Rosalind-6, for biology, drug discovery and translational medicine. It uses the same weights as GPT-6 Astra with no added training; the difference is calibration that allows more dual-use biology answers while still refusing weaponization requests. OpenAI treats it as High in the biological and chemical domain. Access is limited to organizations approved for Rosalind Research through OpenAI's trusted-access program, for internal research by authorized users.

At the highest reasoning budget tested, OpenAI reports gains over GPT-Rosalind-5.5: 49.6% vs 28.9% on MedChemBench v7, 37.7% vs 16.7% on GeneBench Pro v13, and 61.3% vs 44.0% on LifeSciBench Gold. API pricing is $15 input, $1.50 cached input and $75 output per million tokens. OpenAI did not publish a separate announcement post; the release appears in its API changelog, pricing page and system card hub.

Why GPT-6 Rosalind matters for businesses

This matters mainly to biotech, pharma and research clients. If you build tools for them, OpenAI offers its Rosalind models through the API and Rosalind Workbench in Codex, but each client organization must pass OpenAI's access review first, so plan onboarding time and keep a general model as the fallback for teams that are not approved.
