What changed with o1-preview
On September 12, 2024, OpenAI released o1-preview, the first of a new series trained to spend more time thinking before responding. OpenAI reported that the next model update solved 83% of problems on a qualifying exam for the International Mathematics Olympiad, versus 13% for GPT-4o, and reached the 89th percentile on Codeforces. It also released o1-mini, 80% cheaper than o1-preview and strong at coding. Both went to ChatGPT Plus and Team users with weekly limits and to API usage tier 5 developers, without browsing, file uploads or function calling at first.
