Runway releases Gen-4, a video model focused on consistent characters and scenes

Runway Gen-4 at a glance

Gen-4 uses reference images to keep characters, objects and locations consistent across shots, without fine-tuning, starting with 5- and 10-second clips.

What changed with Runway Gen-4

Runway introduced Gen-4 on March 31, 2025, the fourth generation of its video model. Its headline feature is world consistency: from a single reference image plus instructions, it keeps the same character, object or location coherent across different lighting, camera angles and scenes, without any fine-tuning.

Runway also positioned Gen-4 for image work, such as placing a product in new settings, and showed short films made entirely with the model. SiliconANGLE reported that clips were initially limited to 5 or 10 seconds.

Why Runway Gen-4 matters for businesses

For businesses, consistent characters and products are what make AI video usable for ads, explainers and social campaigns, since a brand mascot or product has to look the same in every shot. Usage rights and disclosure still need to be checked for each platform.
