What changed with xAI Grok 4
On July 9, 2025, xAI released Grok 4 to SuperGrok and Premium+ subscribers and through the xAI API. xAI said it used its 200,000-GPU Colossus cluster to run reinforcement learning at pretraining scale, teaching the model to reach for a code interpreter, web browsing and deep X search when needed.
xAI also introduced Grok 4 Heavy, which uses parallel test-time compute to consider several hypotheses at once, available through a new SuperGrok Heavy subscription. It reported 15.9% on ARC-AGI-2 for Grok 4, a new high for closed models at the time by its account, and the API offered a 256,000 token context window with text and vision input.
