Most EU AI Act rules take effect, including chatbot and deepfake transparency

EU AI Act at a glance

From August 2, 2026, Article 50 transparency duties apply and national and EU enforcement begins for the rules already in force.

What changed with EU AI Act

According to the European Commission's AI Act timeline, most of the AI Act's rules apply from August 2, 2026. That includes the Article 50 transparency rules, which cover telling people when they are talking to an AI system and labeling AI-generated or manipulated content, plus measures to support innovation.

Enforcement at national and EU level also begins for general-purpose AI models, the banned practices, transparency, and AI literacy. Providers of generative systems already on the market before that date have until December 2, 2026 to meet the output-marking requirement in Article 50(2).

Why EU AI Act matters for businesses

For agencies deploying chatbots, voice agents, or content generators for EU audiences, this is the date to have clear AI disclosures in place. High-risk system rules were pushed to later dates by the Digital Omnibus.
