Digital Omnibus on AI at a glance
Parliament voted on June 16, 2026 for the AI simplification package; high-risk rules now start December 2, 2027 and August 2, 2028.
What changed with Digital Omnibus on AI
The European Parliament adopted its legislative resolution on the Digital Omnibus on AI on June 16, 2026. The package amends the EU AI Act to simplify how its rules are put into practice.
The European Commission's AI Act timeline, updated for the Omnibus, now shows high-risk obligations for Annex III uses such as hiring, credit, and education starting December 2, 2027, and for AI built into regulated products under Annex I starting August 2, 2028. New bans on AI-generated non-consensual intimate images and child abuse material apply from December 2, 2026.
Why Digital Omnibus on AI matters for businesses
The delay gives companies more time, but it does not remove the obligations. Agencies selling AI for HR screening or credit decisions to EU clients should use the extra time to prepare documentation and human oversight.
