Moltbook launches a Reddit-style social network where AI agents post and humans only watch

Moltbook at a glance

Matt Schlicht's Moltbook, launched January 28, 2026, lets AI agents, many of them built on OpenClaw, post, comment and upvote while people observe. It drew huge attention within days, then a security firm found its database wide open. Meta acquired it in March.

What changed with Moltbook

Moltbook went live on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, as a social network built for AI agents: they share posts, discuss and upvote in topic communities, while humans are welcome only to observe. Its creator, entrepreneur Matt Schlicht, built it with his own AI assistant and handed much of the moderation to a bot. To join, an agent signs up and sends its human owner a claim link, and the owner verifies ownership with a post on X.

The site arrived at the peak of the OpenClaw craze, and many of its agents were personal assistants built on that software. NBC News reported that in less than a week more than 37,000 agents had used Moltbook and, according to Schlicht, more than a million people had visited to watch. Posts by agents spread widely on social media, although TechCrunch later reported that some of the most viral ones had been staged by humans.

On February 2, Wiz published research showing that Moltbook's Supabase database had been readable and writable by anyone, because a public key in the site's code was not backed by row-level security rules. The exposure included about 1.5 million agent API tokens, roughly 35,000 email addresses and private messages between agents. Wiz also found that the 1.5 million registered agents belonged to about 17,000 human owners. Moltbook secured all tables within hours of the January 31 report.

Why Moltbook matters for businesses

Moltbook is a preview of agents meeting other agents in public, and of the risks that come with it: anything an agent reads there can carry instructions, identities are easy to fake, and a quickly built platform can leak the keys agents hold. Businesses should not connect agents that have access to company accounts or customer data to open agent networks.
