Claude Opus 4.6 at a glance
Opus 4.6 improves planning, long agentic tasks and code review over Opus 4.5, adds a 1M-token context window in beta for the first time in an Opus model, and keeps the $5/$25 per million token price.
What changed with Claude Opus 4.6
On February 5, 2026, Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.6, an upgrade to its top model at the time. Anthropic says it plans more carefully, sustains agentic tasks for longer, works more reliably in large codebases and catches more of its own mistakes. It is the first Opus model with a 1M-token context window, offered in beta. At launch, Anthropic reported top scores on Terminal-Bench 2.0, Humanity's Last Exam and BrowseComp, and a lead of about 144 Elo points over GPT-5.2 on GDPval-AA.
The release came with product changes: agent teams in Claude Code, context compaction and adaptive thinking on the API, new effort controls, upgrades to Claude in Excel and a research preview of Claude in PowerPoint. Opus 4.6 is available in claude.ai, the API as claude-opus-4-6 and the major cloud platforms at $5 input and $25 output per million tokens.

Why Claude Opus 4.6 matters for businesses
For agencies, the larger context window and longer-running agent behavior matter most for work on big codebases, long documents and multi-step research. Anthropic notes the model can overthink simple tasks, so lowering the effort setting is a practical way to control cost and latency in production.
