Claude Sonnet 4.6 brings near-Opus coding and better computer use at Sonnet prices

Claude Sonnet 4.6 at a glance

Sonnet 4.6 upgrades coding, computer use, long-context reasoning and agent planning, adds a 1M-token context window in beta, becomes the default for Free and Pro users, and keeps pricing from $3/$15 per million tokens.

What changed with Claude Sonnet 4.6

On February 17, 2026, Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 4.6, a broad upgrade across coding, computer use, long-context reasoning, agent planning, knowledge work and design. It adds a 1M-token context window in beta and became the default model for Free and Pro users in claude.ai and Claude Cowork. Pricing stays the same as Sonnet 4.5, starting at $3 input and $15 output per million tokens.

Anthropic says early-access developers preferred Sonnet 4.6 to Sonnet 4.5 by a wide margin and often to Opus 4.5. It describes a major improvement in computer use over earlier Sonnet models, measured on OSWorld-Verified, and much better resistance to prompt injection than Sonnet 4.5, while noting the model still trails the most skilled people at operating a computer.

Why Claude Sonnet 4.6 matters for businesses

For businesses, Sonnet 4.6 puts work that used to need an Opus-class model, such as filling multi-step web forms or navigating spreadsheets, at a lower price point. It is a reasonable default for high-volume agents and automations, with Opus kept for the hardest tasks.
