Claude Opus 4.8 improves agent reliability and makes fast mode three times cheaper

Claude Opus 4.8 at a glance

Opus 4.8 builds on Opus 4.7 with better judgment on long agentic work, launches with dynamic workflows in Claude Code and effort controls in claude.ai, and keeps $5/$25 pricing, while fast mode drops to $10/$50.

What changed with Claude Opus 4.8

On May 28, 2026, Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.8, an update to Opus 4.7 with gains across coding, agentic and professional benchmarks and more consistency on long-running work. Early testers quoted by Anthropic describe sharper judgment and cleaner tool use, and one says it fixes comment-verbosity and tool-calling issues they had seen with Opus 4.7.

Several features launched with it. Users on claude.ai can now choose how much effort Claude spends on a task, and Claude Code gained dynamic workflows for very large jobs that run across many parallel subagents. Fast mode, which runs the model about 2.5 times faster, became three times cheaper than for earlier models, at $10 input and $50 output per million tokens. Standard pricing is unchanged at $5 input and $25 output, and the model is available as claude-opus-4-8.
