Claude Opus 5 targets everyday agentic coding and long multi-step work at $5/$25 per million tokens, and Anthropic says it comes close to Fable 5 on several tests.
What changed with Claude Opus 5
Claude Opus 5 launched on all platforms with a 1M-token context window and thinking on by default, per the API release notes. Anthropic highlighted better self-verification, long multi-step tasks, scientific work and visual output. On CursorBench 3.2 at max effort, it reported a score within 0.5% of Fable 5's peak at half the cost per task.
Pricing stayed at $5 input and $25 output per million tokens, the same as Opus 4.8. A fast mode runs about 2.5 times faster at twice the base price, and Opus 5 became the default model on Claude Max.
