bb at a glance
bb (getbb.app) is an MIT-licensed desktop, web and CLI workspace for running and steering coding agents such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor and any ACP agent with your own subscriptions. Most features are plugins, and you can ask the agents to build new ones.
What changed with bb
On August 5, 2026, the bb project published An Agentic IDE That Builds Itself, its launch post. bb began as a passion project by developer Michael Yong and is developed in the open on GitHub under the MIT license; its first desktop release had appeared in May 2026.
bb is not a model or a single agent. It is a workspace that runs agent threads you can watch live, steer, or hand from one agent to another. Out of the box it works with Codex, Claude Code and Cursor, plus any agent that speaks the Agent Client Protocol, and it uses the subscriptions and CLIs you are already signed into, so bb itself does not bill for model usage.
Many built-in features, such as side chat, scheduled runs, inline previews and remote access, are plugins built on the same system users can extend. The idea is that you can ask an agent inside bb to add a panel, a command or a skill to bb itself. A plugin marketplace and a Linux alpha followed on August 15, alongside the main macOS app.

Why bb matters for businesses
bb is still early and much smaller than tools like OpenClaw or OpenCode, but it reflects a clear trend: developers juggling several coding agents want one place to supervise them. Because it can run agents with broad access on your machine, keep it bound to localhost, update it often, and review plugins before installing them.

Update (Updated)
bb 0.45.0 added DNS rebinding protection, and 0.48.0 on October 28 made updates and plugin downloads checksum-verified.
getbb.app (opens in a new tab)Update
bb 0.36.0 changed the server to listen only on 127.0.0.1 by default. Earlier versions listened on every network interface, exposing bb's unauthenticated API to any host that could reach the machine; update if you run an older build.
