Anthropic previews Claude Duet, a proactive agent app that briefs you and works while you are away

On October 21, 2026, Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app in which Claude works as a proactive agent. It is available on iOS, Android and claude.ai for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US through a waitlist, and it shares each plan's usage limits with the rest of Claude. Duet is built around Claude Opus 5.5 and carries over the memory, skills and connected apps from a user's Claude account.

Each morning Duet sends a short brief on what needs attention across connected apps, then checks those accounts every few hours and messages the user only when something needs them. Users can hand it tasks by text or voice in one ongoing thread, from scheduling meetings to building dashboards, forecasts or simple web apps. It runs in a virtual machine with its own browser, so it keeps working when the user's devices are off, and it can draw on more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace.

Duet reads, drafts and prepares work on its own but shows exactly what it will do and waits for approval before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything. Some actions, such as trading securities or moving money between accounts, are blocked even with approval, and a new classifier guards against leaking sensitive data like card numbers and government IDs.
