Amazon Polly at a glance
The upgraded Generative engine sounds more natural and reads numbers, addresses, and confirmation codes more accurately, at the same price and with the same API; the catalog grows to 57 voices across 11 languages.
What changed with Amazon Polly
On October 22, 2026, AWS released a major upgrade to the Amazon Polly Generative engine. Existing generative voices were upgraded in place: voice names, the SynthesizeSpeech call, and pricing stay the same, so current applications get the new voices without code changes. AWS says the engine now reflects emotion and prosody from the text and reads entities such as tracking numbers, dates, currency, and street addresses more accurately.
The catalog grows to 57 generative voices across 11 languages and 25 locales. The 14 new voices cover US English, Australian English, Indian English, German, US Spanish (Carlos), Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Hindi, and Finnish, and Hindi and Finnish are available on the Generative engine for the first time. The bidirectional streaming API, StartSpeechSynthesisStream, lets an app send text and receive audio at the same time for real-time voice agents.

Why Amazon Polly matters for businesses
For agencies building IVR menus or cascaded voice agents on AWS, this is a free quality upgrade, but an in-place change can alter how existing prompts sound. Replay your key call flows, especially read-backs of phone numbers, addresses, and order totals, and try the new US Spanish voice for bilingual lines before switching clients over.
