AWS WAF adds Stripe payouts for AI traffic monetization, so sites can charge AI agents and get paid in local currency

AWS WAF at a glance

AWS WAF customers on CloudFront can now have stablecoin payments from AI bots and agents settle in local currency to their Stripe balance, without holding stablecoins or a crypto wallet. Stripe joins existing stablecoin payouts at no added charge; standard AWS WAF and Stripe fees apply.

What changed with AWS WAF

AI traffic monetization in AWS WAF lets content and API providers charge AI bots and agents at the edge for access to protected resources. When an agent requests monetized content, AWS WAF answers with an HTTP 402 Payment Required response that lists the price and the payment credential types it accepts. The agent comes back with a valid payment credential, AWS WAF verifies it, and the content is served ungated. AWS describes this as an open protocol for machine-to-machine payments that any compatible client can use. Its existing payout option settles USDC to wallet addresses that the customer manages on the Base or Solana networks.

On November 5, 2026, AWS added Stripe as a second payout method. Agents still pay in stablecoins, but after a customer connects a Stripe account through Stripe Connect (set up under Payment preferences in the AWS Billing and Cost Management console) and references it in AWS WAF, the money settles in local currency to the Stripe balance. Existing pricing and agent policies keep working, and the console's revenue analytics show income from every payment provider.

The developer guide lists limits for this connected-account route: one connected account, Base and Solana only, prices from 0.01 USDC with no sub-cent amounts, and no test mode, in the commercial AWS partition only. It is available at no additional charge to all AWS WAF customers using Amazon CloudFront, in every edge location where AWS WAF web ACLs are associated with CloudFront distributions. Standard AWS WAF and Stripe processing fees apply.

Why AWS WAF matters for businesses

For publishers, documentation sites and API providers whose content is read by AI agents, this removes a practical hurdle to charging for that traffic: no one on the team has to hold crypto or reconcile wallet payouts, because the revenue lands in the same Stripe balance as other sales. Compare AWS WAF and Stripe fees with your planned per-request price, since the Stripe route cannot charge less than one cent per request. AWS also says its bot classification is probabilistic, so validate your Monetize rules in test mode with a self-managed test wallet before you send paid traffic to Stripe.
