OpenAI introduces Presence, a deployed product for enterprise voice and chat agents

OpenAI Presence at a glance

Presence packages policies, guardrails, approved actions, simulations, evaluations and a Codex-driven improvement loop for customer and internal voice and chat agents. It launched through a limited general availability program led by OpenAI engineers and partners.

What changed with OpenAI Presence

On July 22, 2026, OpenAI introduced Presence, an enterprise product for putting AI agents into customer-facing and internal workflows over voice and chat, such as billing support, insurance claims or IT requests. Each deployment starts with one defined job; the company sets what the agent may do, when it needs approval and when a person takes over.

Presence combines standard operating procedures, guardrails, approved actions, simulations and graders for pre-launch testing, and production monitoring. A Codex plugin reviews sessions and escalations and proposes changes that teams can test against the live version before a controlled rollout. OpenAI says Presence runs its own English-language phone support line, where it reports resolving 75% of inbound issues without human help; BBVA, SoftBank and IAG were named as early partners.

Presence is not self-serve. It is offered to eligible enterprises through a limited general availability program, with deployments led by OpenAI Forward Deployed Engineers and selected global systems integrators, while voice builders can keep using OpenAI models through the API.

Why OpenAI Presence matters for businesses

For agencies that build voice and chat agents, Presence is a signal of where large accounts will look first: a managed, policy-driven package from the model vendor. Smaller businesses remain outside its program for now, which leaves room for agencies that bring the same discipline of tested policies, escalation rules and measured improvement to API-based builds.
