Audio effects
Auto Filter
A resonant filter moved by an LFO or by the loudness of the input.
What it does
A resonant filter moved by an LFO or by the loudness of the input.
Add it to a track
Select the destination track, open Plugins, and choose Add Effect. Find this device in Library → Devices → Audio Effects. Effects process the signal from the devices before them in the chain.
Controls
| Control | What to listen or look for |
|---|---|
| Listen | Auditions only the filtered signal; turning this off restores the stored wet/dry mix. |
| Type | Chooses low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, or notch filtering. |
| Cutoff | Sets the frequency where the filter acts on the sound. |
| Resonance | Sets the filter's resonance or bandwidth; higher values make a narrower, stronger emphasis. |
| LFO Amount | Sets the strength and direction of the oscillator's modulation of the filter cutoff. |
| Rate | Sets how fast the modulation cycle repeats. |
| Sync | Locks timing to the project tempo instead of a free-running time or rate. |
| Synced Rate | Chooses a musical note division for tempo-synchronized timing. |
| Shape | Chooses the waveform of the repeating modulation. |
| Stereo Phase | Offsets the modulation cycle between the left and right channels. |
| Env Amount | Sets how strongly the envelope moves the filter cutoff. |
| Attack | Sets how quickly the envelope follower responds to rising input level. |
| Release | Sets how quickly the envelope follower relaxes as input level falls. |
| Mix | Blends the original signal with the processed signal; 100% gives only the processed sound. |
| Slope | Sets how steeply the filter attenuates frequencies beyond its cutoff. |
| Drive | Pushes the signal into nonlinear processing, adding distortion and harmonics. |
| Env Source | Chooses peak or averaged signal level for the envelope follower. |
| LFO 2 | Sets the strength and direction of the oscillator's modulation of the filter cutoff. |
Work with this device
Start with a short passage that represents your material. Change one control at a time. Compare at a similar listening level, using the device's power control to bypass it. Save a version of the project before making a large change.
