Takes & comping

Enable Take folders: stack recordings over the same range as takes on one track in Preferences → Audio → Recording. A first isolated recording can remain a normal region. A later overlapping recording creates or extends a take folder. Loop passes and overlapping punch-ins can become numbered takes.

1. Right-click the folder and choose Show takes or Expand takes.
2. Listen to the numbered lanes below the main comp.
3. Drag over a passage in a source lane and release to use that passage in the comp.
4. Use Use whole take in comp to choose an entire performance.
5. Rename useful takes so they are easier to compare.

In a take lane's context menu, choose Select range in seconds → Use in comp. Enter start and end times for a range actually covered by the take. This is useful when a short section is difficult to select visually.

Listen across every boundary. Short automatic crossfades may be added where source material is available. Existing fades, source boundaries and stretched material can limit them. Inspect and adjust the fades instead of assuming every seam is inaudible.

After an explicit comp edit, later recordings remain alternatives and preserve the existing comp within its bounds. Use latest take deliberately promotes the newest pass. Flatten comp removes source alternatives while keeping the main performance. Delete unused takes removes sources not used by the comp. Both require confirmation and can be undone; retain source takes while comparing.
